Yahoo's Marissa Mayer highest paid female CEO in 2014

Yahoo's Marissa Mayer has topped a list of highest paid female CEOs, but women business leaders still take home far less than their male counterparts.

According to a ranking of highest paid CEOs from The New York Times, Mayer is the highest paid woman leading a company, coming in at No. 14 on the list of top paid bosses.

The next highest paid female CEO, United Therapeutics' Martine Rothblatt came in at No. 24, while the rankings have to be plumbed all the way to No. 124 to compile a list of the top 10 women.

In contrast to Mayer, the highest paid man on the Times list, Discovery Communications' David M. Zaslav, took home a staggering $US156.1 million in 2014.

Second on the list of highest paid CEOs was Liberty Global's Michael T. Fries, whose remuneration totalled $US111.9 million. He was followed by Gamco Investors' Mario J. Gabelli with $US88.5 million, Microsoft's Satya Nadella with $US84.3 million and GoPro's Nicholas Woodman with $US77.4 million.
