Developer SpecterDev finally released a fully-functional much-awaited kernel exploit for PlayStation 4 (firmware 4.05) today—almost two months after Team Fail0verflow revealed the technical details of it.
Now available on Github, dubbed "namedobj," the kernel exploit for the PlayStation 4 on 4.05FW allows users to run arbitrary code on the gaming console, enabling jailbreaking and kernel-level modifications to the system.

Security researchers are warning of a new spam campaign targeting Brazilian institutions that contain Compiled HTML file attachments that are used to deliver a banking Trojan.
Spam messages contain a malicious CHM attachment called “comprovante.chm”, wrote Rodel Mendrez, senior security researcher at Trustwave in a technical write-up outlining the research.
He added, the multiple stage infection technique used to deliver the Trojan is effective at obfuscating the malware from detection. Currently only eight out of 60 AV scanners identified the CHM file attachments as malicious, he said.
Criminals behind the VenusLocker ransomware have switched to cryptocurrency mining in their latest campaign targeting computer users in South Korea. Instead of attempting to infect targeted computers with ransomware, the group is now trying to install malware on PCs that mines for Monero, an open-source cryptocurrency.
The shift was spotted by FortiGuard Labs, which said the group behind the attacks is attempting to capitalize on a surging cryptocurrency market.
“With more and more people realizing that cryptocurrency is potentially a significantly profitable investment, this rise is likely to continue for the foreseeable future. And where there is profit, that is where malware attacks will gather,” wrote FortiGuard in a report Wednesday.
Researchers have identified a vulnerability in a Huawei home router model that is being exploited by an adversary to spread a variant of the Mirai malware called Okiku, also known as Satori.
Researchers at Check Point published a report Thursday, and said the flaw is in Huawei’s router model HG532. It said it is tracking hundreds of thousands of attempts to exploit the vulnerability in the wild.
Okiku/Satori was first identified by Check Point researchers on November 23. Leading up to the discovery, researchers said they had observed a flurry of attacks worldwide against Huawei HG532 devices, with the U.S., Italy, Germany and Egypt hit the hardest.

A hacker used a new type of malware targeting industrial control systems against a critical infrastructure organization in an attack that resulted in operations shutting down, according to cybersecurity experts.

A team of security researchers has discovered a critical implementation flaw in major mobile banking applications that left banking credentials of millions of users vulnerable to hackers.
The vulnerability was discovered by researchers of the Security and Privacy Group at the University of Birmingham, who tested hundreds of different banking apps—both iOS and Android—and found that several of them were affected by a common issue, leaving their users vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks.

Roman Valerevich Seleznev, the son of a prominent Russian lawmaker who's already facing a 27-year prison sentence in the United States, has been handed another 14-year prison sentence for his role in an "organized cybercrime ring" that caused $59 Million in damages across the US.
In April this year, Seleznev, the 33-year-old son of a Russian Parliament member of the nationalist Liberal Democratic Party (LDPR), was sentenced to 27 years in prison for payment card fraud, causing nearly $170 million in damages to small business and financial institutions in the US.
The sentence was so far the longest sentence ever imposed in the United States for a hacking-related case.
