Samsung Galaxy Gear Smartwatch

You thought that most watches just tell the time didn’t you? But not in this era of smartwatches!

Samsung has released it’s first smartwatch- The Samsung Galaxy Gear. More than an independent device, this smartwatch functions as an accessory to other Galaxy phones. Which means that this device won’t get you far without sticking a Galaxy phone to it. Right now only the Samsung Galaxy Note III will be compatible with it. But you could expect further phones to be compatible with it in the foreseeable future.

The watch uses Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy standard to communicate with it’s parent device. This is a wise decision by Samsung considering that the Galaxy Gear flaunts only a 315mAh battery. Now, the watch is supposedly announced to last a day, but I wouldn’t bet much on that. It runs the Android operating system, shows off a 1.63-inch Super AMOLED display with a 320 x 320 resolution, a single-core 800MHz Exynos processor, a metal face and buckle with a range of colors to choose from.

The watch also features a 1.9MP camera, a speaker and two microphones. For those of you worried about safety, Samsung has made it impossible for you to click pictures without a shutter sound. It has a 4GB on-board storage to save the pictures on your watch instead of the parent device. So just “point your wrist and shoot”!

With the speaker and microphone, you will be able to pretend you’re James Bond and talk into your watch! But don’t expect too much, the speaker has a pretty low volume profile. But hey, you could still look cool!
